So Typical!

13 06 2007

Isn’t it just so typical that the day after starting this, something goes wrong. Well not with this but with Molly! She had a wobble.

After a day doing her impression of a devil dog and another late night she woke up, early as ever, and started to be sick. What a noise to wake up to after 5 hours sleep. She has been sick once before and produced an enormous hair ball of bits of bathroom rug and various other chewed household goods so we were expecting something similar. Just a bit of spit this time!

Everything we gave her after that stayed down for about 2 minutes before being noisily regurgitated, poor pup!

The only thing to stay down a bit longer was some cold meat slices from the fridge which managed 2 hours. We booked her to see the vet that evening. They are a wonderful vets with people who really care and are all obviously animal lovers. Some we’ve seen in the past have always seemed to be in it for the money but Manor Vets have always gone that extra mile and always greeted Mervin with a huge smile and a fuss which of course he used to lap up! They have several practises, 3 I think, covering the local area. We have so far used 2 of them.

So we saw Steve. Steve was the first from Manor vets to meet Mervin too so it has been kind of fitting that he was also the first to meet Molly. I dare say he didn’t expect to see her quite so soon after her second immunisation jab a couple of weeks ago though! Steve said, much as we suspected, that it was probably something she’d eaten that she shouldn’t have. He had a good feel of her belly and couldn’t feel anything untoward but her temperature was a tiny bit raised so gave her a couple of jabs. One jab an antibiotic called Synulox, we also have some pills for her to take over the next five days called Synulox, the other jab something to calm her tummy called Cerenia. He said to feed her bland food for a while like pasta, rice, chicken, scrambled eggs etc.

There is alot of Parvo Virus around at the minute but she hasn’t really had the trots and is bright if a little woofy and bitey, she hasn’t really had anything to give her the trots mind you, it has all come up rather than through!

Touch wood.. She is alot better today. Very ratty again though presumably because she’s hungry and unsettled. She is loving chicken breast which is worrying, I do hope she doesn’t get too used to it! So far she has had grilled chicken breast with pasta spears (there is probably a posh name for these isnt there), sliced up to puppy sized chunks and drizzled in olive oil, we’ve been thinking of joining her! Perhaps try her with a tin of tuna later. Wish us luck!

Molly’s New Blog

11 06 2007

Welcome to Molly’s new blog!

Molly is our Black Labrador puppy. We can’t believe how fast she is growing, she won’t be puppy shaped for long! Molly is now just 12 weeks old, we have had her since she was 8 weeks old, so four weeks.. what eventful weeks they have been too!

Molly does try to be good. She may wobble but she doesn’t fall down.

I should put a bit here about Mervin too, you might see him mentioned. Mervin was our best friend, our loving intelligent much missed friend. He was a black lab too. He was a rock but his kidneys let him down shortly after his 14th birthday and very sadly we had to say a final goodbye to him on Easter Monday. It was only a couple of weeks later that a friend offered us one of her litter. It did seem too soon after saying goodbye to Mervin and felt a bit like we were replacing him but it would be another 2 or 3 weeks until they were ready to be separated so we went to see the litter the following weekend.

How could we say no to this!

How could we say no to this! Molly is asleep on top of a rubber toy on the right by the dish. She pretty much adopted us. She was the most interested when we saw them and seemed to be a bit of a character. When the others went to sleep she stayed awake and was eager to play, until we got the camera out obviously, then she went straight to sleep!

Her bithday is St Patricks Day, March 17th 2007. At 8 weeks, on May 12th she came home with us and our lives haven’t been the same since!

We will be posting loads of pictures here, we have a ton already, and updating it with her news and ours. We are keeping this as a scrap book to look back on over time as we wish we had done for Mervin and maybe to make new friends! We’d love to hear from you so please feel free to leave comments throughout the site.
